EMDR

A highly effective and evidence-based trauma therapy that is recognized organizations such as the American Psychological Association and World Health Organization. Through bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps you to reprocess disturbing memories and reduce their emotional impact. EMDR moves beyond language and allows the body to work through the trauma on it’s own.

Fast & Effective

EMDR is known for its ability to quickly & effectively process traumatic memories, often leading to improvements within just a few sessions. EMDR is recognized as a time-efficient approach to trauma therapy.

Holistic Approach

EMDR addresses emotional, cognitive and physical aspects of trauma. By reprocessing distressing memories, EMDR helps integrate traumatic experiences into a broader narrative and reduces the emotional charge of those experiences.

Athlete Insight recognizes that every athlete has different needs which is why we offer EMDR to resolve trauma.

We have helped countless athletes overcome trauma. We would be honored to help you, too.

FAQs

How do I know if EMDR is right for me?

Great question! During your discovery call, the Athlete Insight team member whom you speak will work to understand your unique situation and help you determine whether EMDR is the right approach for you.

How long does trauma therapy take?

The length of therapy varies based on your trauma experiences, needs, and goals. Some athletes notice improvements within just a few sessions while others may need longer-term support. Your therapist will be able to give you a more specific estimate following your initial sessions.

I don’t think that I experienced anything traumatic but I am curious about these services. Can you help me, too?

Absolutely. Every athlete has a unique story. We know that EMDR is incredibly powerful, even if you haven’t experienced trauma. In fact, we also use EMDR to support performance. Dr. Kate Bennett wrote her dissertation about the impact of EMDR on performance. Her study results indicated that EMDR can, in fact, support performance. Schedule a discovery call so that we can help you to better understand how EMDR might benefit you.

Kate Bennett, PsyD

Athletes are “supposed” to be mentally tough; however, the truth is that athletes are humans first. As a person, you experience all of the same stress as your non-athlete peers in addition to ALL of the stressors that sport & competition brings along. You might struggle to acknowledge that your mind may not be “tough enough” to handle all of that stress. I am here to say, it is okay. You can ask for help. In fact, you become stronger and tougher when you know how to effectively manage your headspace.

I meet all athletes exactly where they are at, as humans first. Together, we identify goals to meet your life and sport needs. When you work with me, you get a therapist and a coach. My goal is to provide the “right-for-you” tools, strategies, and insights to support you in becoming the most confident and resilient version of yourself in both sport & life.

Experience: I am a clinical sport psychologist, licensed in the state of Colorado. I earned my BS in kinesiology and athletic training from Indiana University and my EdM in counseling and sport psychology from Boston University. My passion for the connection between the mental and physical health of athletes prompted me to return to graduate school at the University of the Rockies. I completed my practicum at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs Counseling Center and my pre-doctoral internship at the Western Washington University Counseling Center. I then completed my post-doctoral fellowship at EDCare.
